Let the Back to School mission begin!

First to the commissary to stock up on lunch-making supplies. Then to the Exchange hoping for a great sale on school clothes. Stretching that E-4 pay further, by loading up on all the coupons and circulars one can carry. Finally success!

As your Junior Heroes march off to class full of pride and hope as another school year begins, pause and appreciate this moment in your life right now as it is happening. Because when tomorrow comes, today will be just a memory. Enjoy the comfort that comes with the start of another school year and the notion of a few well earned hours to yourself.

Gain A Sense Of Self

As women, we have a tendency to focus solely on our roles, as wife and mother, putting the needs of others before our own. This makes it difficult to call on or even recognize our wants anymore. As military spouses, we must be careful not to give away too much and take steps to reclaim our sense of self. This will not only empower you, but it will empower your entire family.

Make A YOU List

Make a to do list with you as the #1 priority. It could include getting a massage or pedicure, skydiving, working out or whatever else you’d like. Remember, happiness comes from your own choices and actions, so make it something worthwhile. It could be as simple as a meditation or yoga class right on base, or some spa-like pampering at home.

Feed Your Soul

What would your life look like if you set aside time every day to feed your soul?

  • The Sound of Silence-Take 15 minutes out of everyday to feed your soul with the gift of silent contemplation.
  • Stop Judging. Start Enjoying-Practice non-judgment toward the people in your life… and most importantly toward yourself.
  • Feel What You Feel-Give yourself permission to tap into your true self. Ask yourself how you feel, what you need, and what you want.

Feed Your Mind

online-learningEducation isn’t just for kids. Now more than ever military spouses are looking to education as means to enrich themselves personally and professionally. According to data from the U.S. Census Bureau, enrollment of women in higher education institutions is at an all-time high. And currently women account for more than 60 percent of all online learning students.

At Martinsburg, we find that military spouses often decide to go back to school as a step towards building up their skills, improving career opportunities and making themselves better suited to take care of their families during times of deployment.

In fact, the flexibility of online learning is an especially great fit for military moms because they are able to do it right from home, without the need for transportation or day care.

Be The Captain Of Your Own Ship

This school year, be the captain of your own ship. Take time to adjust your sails and navigate in the direction that makes you happy. Because at the end of the day, you will never be able to make others happy until you are truly happy.
