The field of health care is constantly changing as new technologies become more accessible and integrated into mainstream culture. As a result of some of these technological advances, in 2009 the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act mandates that all health care facilities and doctors’ offices transition from paper medical records to electronic medical records. By implementing electronic medical records, federal, state, local, and private agencies can qualify for and receive incentive payments as outlined in the Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health Act. The use of electronic records will reduce the amount of prescription errors, decrease manual errors, and improve overall quality care for patients. The Health Care Administration Technology Certificate Program provides students with the knowledge and skills to function in most healthcare settings. While the main focus of the program is on electronic health records, students will also learn medical office procedures, medical terminology and vocabulary.
