I contemplated going back to school for a while. I was in Colorado at that time and we just learned that my husband and I would be leaving to Germany. I had to leave my job yet again and follow my husband, yet again. This time it was almost half way around the world. Where would I work? What would I do? More importantly, I started to think about the next move and the one after that. What was I going to do that would allow me the possibility to have employment anywhere we were sent? I started talking to other wives that had been living the Army wife life longer than I had. After all, Colorado was my first PCS after meeting my husband in Hawaii.
Martinsburg College’s online certificate program kept coming up as a possible option. The Army wives that I had spoke to were working at hospitals and doctors’ offices, were able to contribute to their family’s income, and were genuinely happy with what they were doing. Then I got pregnant and thought I would not be able to do it moving and pregnant, I would do it after my baby was born. Then life got really busy and before I knew it, a year had gone by. I was friends with one of the Martinsburg representatives on Facebook, I kept seeing her post graduation congratulations, and each time I thought about enrolling. I thought maybe one day that could be me. Finally, I just did it. I started the Medical Office Administration program. Then I found out that I was pregnant again and I wondered how I would be able to do it and chase around a one year old while being ill constantly. There were a lot of times I did the modules with a crying baby on my lap, or while she slept on my shoulder. Toward the end, things got complicated with my pregnancy and I was approaching my graduation date. I wondered if I could get it done. I contacted Martinsburg and to my surprise, they were more than happy to help me. The staff was so friendly and understanding. It was so refreshing that they really got the situation and understood what I was going through.
They worked with me to ensure I would be successful and I was told if I needed any more help I just needed to contact them again. I had my son and again things were getting hectic and I didn’t think I would make it. I contacted Martinsburg again and again got amazing customer service. I didn’t think I could do it just me and my husband and here I was breastfeeding my newborn, entertaining a toddler and getting things done! The modules were easy to understand, the process was straightforward, and help was always available when I needed it. I graduated and soon I will be taking my certification test. Martinsburg is still there for me and has given me resources for both the certification and my resume. They want you to succeed and they want you to be able to apply what you learned in the real world. I don’t see why you wouldn’t choose them. It’s been an amazing journey and I am so glad I stopped making excuses and started making progress toward my certification. –Elisabeth | Medical Office Administration
