Professional Licensure Information

Martinsburg College does not offer any programs that prepare students directly for professional licensure such as nursing, teaching, and accounting programs. The college offers two academic programs in applied behavior analysis that meet the coursework requirements to qualify through Pathway 2 eligibility for certification by the Behavior Analyst Certification Board (BACB).

In addition to completing required coursework, individuals seeking the Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) certification must have also earned a master’s degree, have completed 2000 hours of supervised fieldwork or 1500 hours of concentrated supervised fieldwork, and pass a certification exam. Individuals seeking the Board Certified assistant Behavior Analyst (BCaBA) certification must have earned a minimum of a bachelor’s degree, complete 1300 hours of fieldwork or 1000 hours of concentrated fieldwork and pass a certification exam.

The course sequence meets the Behavior Analyst Certification Board-required hours of graduate-level instruction aligned with the BCBA/BCaBA Task List (fifth edition) and Test Content Outline (TCO sixth edition). BCBA-supervised independent fieldwork supervision hours, required for certification, are arranged and completed by the student separately from their college coursework.

Licensure of Behavior Analysts varies by state. There are currently 40 states that have licensure requirements for behavior analysts. Many states require or accept the BCBA or BCaBA certifications to meet the educational requirements for licensure. However, states may also have additional requirements for licensure. Most states require applicants to undergo a criminal background check as part of the licensure process.

Listed below are the states that currently do not license behavior analysts followed by those states that have licensure requirements.
For additional information about licensing and regulations please visit the BACB site for U.S. Licensure of Behavior Analysts.

States that currently do not have licensure requirements for Behavior Analysts:
